Welcome Walkway

|
The Welcome Walkway
currently is the arrival point for virtually all of our new
members.
We definitely need guides on the walkway at all times, but we do NOT
need a massive number. So how do you know if you are needed or
not? During greeter hours the greeter will help deploy guides to
the areas where they are needed. If the greeters are not on duty
but you are, please check to make sure someone is on the walkway. If
you find 5-10 guides on the walkway, chances are that you are more
needed elsewhere. Check CC Metro to see if there are new members
there as well, but most will be on the Walkway.
As members leave the walkway, they will be directed to three spots, Paiz, Fisher, and Zona Islands. These are also good spots to do
guide duty.

The
New Member Tutorial and Quest
New members will now win a small TBux allowance as they work through
the walkway. There is no need to escort them through the walkway
tutorial as explained below, but for your information, here is how the
WW quest works.
They may earn TBux or prizes at the following stations:
- Entering walkway
- Walking
- Running
- Chatting
- Spa
- Marketplace
- Dancing
- Dogs
- Cards (Note: Free chips are now dispensed from the
Habanero Hold'Em sign)
- Sparkles (Note: New members cannot farm
sparkles. They are allowed to capture exactly one)
- Arrival at an entry Island

Guide Behavior
on the Walkway
- You must have a star to be on the Walkway.
- You need to wear guide clothing (guide shirts, pants,
shoes) on the
Walkway. The
purpose of
this is so that there are fewer new things for the new members to
download. All the guide clothing pieces have been placed into the
new
member client.
- Remain friendly and attentive to new members while on the
Walkway. AFK is a no no.
If you must go AFK, leave the
walkway
entirely.
- Only be on the Walkway when on duty. If you are off
duty, you are off the Walkway.
- Make the new members your first priority. Voice
should only be
used minimally as most new members can't hear that. Groups of
guides
chatting while new members are unattended to is most inappropriate.
- If a greeter is on duty, there will be a guide IM that you
should
be a part of. If the greeter informs you of needs in other
locations,
or if the personnel on the Walkway needs to be rotated to give everyone
a chance, please comply.
- Please assist the greeter with member questions in the
event that the greeter is overwhelmed with IMs or other tasks

Interaction Plan
If you are on the
walkway, here is the priority for spots where we need coverage
- Activity area.
This
is where new members exit the automated tutorial and can engage in
such activities as dancing, cards, playing with dogs, exploring with
Hoverpacks. Our Try-It machines and some additional Spas are
located in
this area. We also have a sign pointing to current events
happening in There. We need a minimum of 2
guides here even if no other spot is manned
- Note on Hoverpacks Only
Bumblebee
hoverpacks may be dropped here, and they may only be dropped
by Guides or Greeters. We should have no more than 2-3 hoverpacks
dropped at any time. Any new member using your hoverpack needs
your close attention. If you see him/her fly out over the water,
summon them back. Do not allow the new members to fly out to sea
and become lost there. If we have any incidents such as a new
member crashing out at sea, please inform Greeter_Josie, and I'll
be sure he returns in a good place.
- Automated tutorial stations such as emotes, spas, marketplace. If
there are plenty of guides in the Activity area, you can check these
areas. We never need more than 2 guides at any of these
stations. 1-2 might be useful to those who need support to the
automated tutorial. More than that will probably interfere with
that experience.
- Departure Point (The Blimp):
This
is
where the new members find out about the larger world and will exit
to various points. If the activity area is well-staffed, 2-3
guides stationed here will be useful. It is also anticipated that
some of the guides in the activity area will accompany new members to
the Travel area and even out into the world. Guides in the travel
area are encouraged to accompany members into the world if the new
member wants a guide. We want
to get the members out into fun areas as quickly as possible.

Activity Area
|
What to do in
the Activity Area
- The first priority
is always welcoming new members. A personal welcome
is the most important thing you can give to new members. Say
'hello,' make them feel welcomed, make
them your buddy.
- Make sure the new members can speak in bubbles. Talk
to them and be sure they can speak back. If you do not observe
this, explain to them how to speak in bubbles.
- Demonstrate emotes, be sure they can use emotes, give them
a list of emotes. I'll provide you a new brochure for this.
A list of emotes can be found at our Island Guide Huts.
- Ask them if they want to use the Try-Its or the Spas.
Assist them if they need you.
- IM members and explain how IM works. Make sure they
can IM you from their buddy list.
- Point them to the link on the CLUB SIGN and invite them to join
any
clubs they are interested in.
- Engage them in activities such as dog training, cards,
dancing.
- Show the new members the current events sign and tell them
how to sign up for fun events in There.
- You may also show them the link on their brochure that
lists our welcoming events.
- Be prepared to talk about the activities you like to do
best in
There. Use that as a conversation point. Another good
discussion point is to talk about places you like to visit in There.
- Pass out the welcome brochure
- Accompany them to the docks and travel areas if they seem
to wish that.
- NOTE: There
are a variety of scenarios that can play out here. It is possible
that you will engage a new member and he will want to remain with you
for the duration of his time on the walkway. It's also possible
that the member will feel more comfortable going from guide to guide at
the various activities. Go with whatever makes the new member
feel most comfortable. Feel free to stay with him as long or as
little as he likes. At the same time, try to make sure that every
new member has an opportunity for a warm welcome and to have his
questions answered.

|
What to do at
the Automated Tutorial Stations
It bears repeating that manning these stations is far less important
than having guides in the Activity Area.
Say hello to the members and answer any questions that they ask.
Allow them to complete the tutorial with no interference if they have
no questions. Be friendly and there for assistance, but do not
hold them up in these areas. Feel free to walk with them through
other parts of the walkway if they are amenable to that.

What to do at the Departure Blimp
- Answer any questions the
members have about the scenic spots highlighted in the travel area.
- Accompany them on their first
trip into the larger world if they wish that
- Make sure they understand how
to use the map before they leave
- Make sure they understand
about forcefield, ignore, and undo last teleport before they leave
- If they want to go to a
particular place, you can take them there. Be sure that you do
not leave them stranded in an isolated place. Return with them to
a populated spot or make sure they know how to find a populated and
safe spot.
- Get them out into the
world into a happy place as quickly as they feel comfortable with that.
